Safety Protocols for Manufacturing Units

Safety First

A safe workplace is a productive workplace. Accidents cause downtime, legal issues, and human tragedy. Implementing robust safety protocols is non-negotiable.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Ensure workers have and use the correct PPE for their tasks:

  • Head: Hard hats in areas with overhead hazards.
  • Eyes: Safety glasses for machining, welding, or chemical handling.
  • Feet: Steel-toed boots to prevent crush injuries.
  • Hands: Cut-resistant gloves for handling sharp metal, heat-resistant for welding.
  • Ears: Earplugs in high-noise zones (>85 dB).

Machinery Safety (Lockout/Tagout)

Before servicing any machine, it must be completely de-energized. The Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure ensures that machines cannot be accidentally started while someone is working on them.

Fire Safety

  • Install fire extinguishers (Class A, B, C, D) at accessible locations.
  • Mark emergency exits clearly.
  • Conduct fire drills every 6 months.

Chemical Safety

Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used (coolants, solvents, paints). Store chemicals in designated, ventilated areas.

Emergency Response

Post emergency numbers (Ambulance, Fire, Police, Hospital) prominently. Train a team of First Aiders on each shift.
