A system that calculates the materials and components needed to manufacture products based on production schedules.
MRP (Material Requirement Planning) takes the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and BOM to determine exactly what materials to order and when.
Inputs to MRP
- Master Production Schedule (what to make, when)
- Bill of Materials (what is needed per unit)
- Current Inventory Levels
- Lead Times for each material
Output
MRP generates purchase orders and production orders with specific quantities and due dates.
